Hyderabad Metro is a rapid transit system, aiding the city of Hyderabad. It is in Secant Functioning model. It is being employed entirely on public-private partnership (PPP) basis. The 30 km stretch from Miyapur to Nagole with the 24 stations was inaugurated on 28 November 2017. The inauguration was by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. No other rapid transit metro service in India opened for public operations on such a long stretch of 30 km. It is estimated to cost ₹18,800 crores. The state of Telangana houses various top Private Engineering colleges in Hyderabad and the introduction of metro system eases the problems of students in connectivity towards different towns housing different colleges. The concessionaire for this project is L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited. They are accountable for all the functions such as construction, operation and maintenance of this Project. The 71.3 km standard-gauge network will feature ballastless track throughout and will be electrified at 25kV ac 50 Hz. An operations control centre and depot are being constructed at Uppal. Rail traffic is reaching out toward new horizons on ballastless track systems. The arguments are indeed convincing the long-life cycles, top speed, ride comfort, and great load-carrying capability. You can take no chances with these systems, especially with newly constructed lines. Even at speeds over 300 km/h, your coffee will stay in your cup. Practically the maintenance free, ballastless track systems ensure almost 100% availability over many years. In many cases, a maintenance-free track system is indeed the more cost-effective solution over the long run.
✔ Advantages
Need less maintenance, save cost. Can reduce dust and beautify the environment. Has great ride performance and stability. Has long durability and service life (about 50-60yrs). Hass high train speed and make passengers feel comfortable.
✗ Disadvantages
It need more investment cost than ballasted track. It cannot be laid in some area like clay deep cutting, soft dirt road and earthquake area. Possibilities for improvement are limited.
Even though Metro and Monorail systems offers a solution for critical traffic jams, it can’t be used for connectivity in longer distances. Other technologies like bullet train systems are planned for India and will revolutionize the concept of transport systems in India. India houses the longest railway system across the world which enables the connectivity towards almost all cities in India. Even With the advancement of technologies in the transport sector, the growth is not as rapid as expected due to Interference of Political and social issues. But we can see the growth happening at a slower but study pace.
